Virtual Reality

Hello everyone! I'm back! I know it's been ages and I'm kicking myself! But I have a good excuse!! I've been spending the last 3 months working ten hour days in Costa, making something I'm very proud of! Me and five other friends have made a WHOLE magazine! Another blog post about >title will be with you very soon... but for now have an article I wrote for the mag.

28th March: the day our view of the world changes for good.

“Rift is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. Whether you’re stepping into your favorite game, watching an immersive VR movie, jumping to a destination on the other side of the world, or just spending time with friends in VR, you’ll feel like you’re really there.” Oculus.com

Back in 2011, 18 year old Palmer Luckey “hacked together a rough prototype” of a virtual reality gadget from the comfort of his parents’ garage. Now 23 years-old, this innovative techy is set to see the launch of his creation this March when the Oculus Rift is finally being released.

Virtual Reality technology is usually a 3D-simulator that allows your body and mind to feel like you’re in a certain environment, powered by a specific platform. The Rift is that platform. A terrifying prospect, definitely - with our light-up rectangles embossed with an apple logo already changing the way we date, share and are entertained. Could The Rift be well on its way to changing how we look at the world? Will 2020 come and we’ll be distorted by a virtual reality while the UK crashes and burns? A little dramatic, yes. But doable? With the rise of 360-degree videos online and first-person gaming, The Rift allows its user to step out of their reality and into another for a few minutes.

You can experience The Hunger Games, Game of Thrones and The Avengers like you’re actually there. But, with Facebook now partnering with Oculus, they seem to think that this virtual reality “will change the way we work, play and communicate”. Whether it will or not is dependent on us. With this new tech toy being the biggest investment for UK gamers this year, it really could go either way.

Rift is now available to pre-order online and will be released for sale at around £250 in March.
